Plumbing Doctor Receives Congressman's Commendation

Marks 20 Years this Dixon-based Company Has Served Solano and Yolo Counties

When most of us think of the stereotypical plumber, our impression isn’t a good one. But, one local company is working hard to change this image and they are getting noticed. Last month , a Dixon-based plumbing company, received a Letter of Commendation from Congressman John Garamendi. He recognized the company for 20 years of outstanding customer service in Solano and Yolo Counties.

You may recognize Plumbing Doctor by their distinctive plumbing trucks, which are recycled ambulances that have been converted into fully stocked service vehicles. Founder and President, Michael Farias, chose recycled ambulances because they stand out and help create brand name recognition. Additionally, he selected recycled ambulances because they are large enough to carry a full inventory of plumbing supplies which allows the repairmen to take care of their customers on the spot, thus providing a better customer service experience.

Excellent customer service has always been a cornerstone of the Plumbing Doctor business model. Farias explains,

“Many plumbers think that they should blow through plumbing jobs as quickly as possible and charge as much as the customer is willing to pay," Farias explained. "They view each customer as a one-time purchaser but we do business differently. We take our time and get to know our customers so we can build a relationship with them. If they need us to stay a longer to explain the work to them or answer questions or help out with additional problems, of course we’re going to do that."

The goal is to provide the best service around so that customers will call the Plumbing Doctor every time they have a plumbing problem, he said. The Plumbing Doctor business model seems to be working since they are now celebrating 20 years of service.

Over the decades, Plumbing Doctor has grown from just Farias and one truck into one of the biggest service and repair plumbing companies in the region. They now employ 20 people in the area and serve Solano and Yolo Counties. In 2006 the company also began expanding through franchising. The Plumbing Doctor brand now serves 131 zip codes in 10 counties in California, Nevada and Oregon. Although the company plans to continue expanding, they have no desire to hand over the reins of their local operation. Farias plans to run the local company with his two adult sons, Justin and Taylor, for the foreseeable future.
