'Operation Cookie Drop' Prepares to Deploy on Travis Air Force Base

The men and women of Travis Air Force Base are about to receive a shipment of baked goods this holiday season.

Members from the Dixon Chamber of Commerce and Team Travis are preparing to deploy a bevvy of cookies down on Travis Air Force base crewmembers this holiday season.

Operation Cookie Drop, an annual event done during the holidays for the single airmen and women living on base. The effort comes by way of the members from Travis Team, a group of about 14,800 active duty, reservists and civilian employees who have come together to bake cookies, by the dozens, and deliver them in disposable containers to two locations on base.

The volunteers then take those cookies and sort them into groups to be delivered by the first sergeants to the service members living in the dorms, those who might not have family in the area or might not be going home for the holidays.

"This gives them a little holiday cheer during this holiday season," said Carol Pruet, Chamber chief administrator.

Volunteers are still needed for the event, too. Those who wish to participate can do so by stopping by either First Street Chapel or the David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base, located at 101 Boden Circle, Travis Air Force Base.

According to officials, volunteers can make the drop-offs from 7 a.m. till noon.
