Letter to the Editor: Yes on Measure L

Fairfield resident Stacy Nygard makes the case for Measure L

Dear Editor:

I am a mother, a community volunteer, and a proud citizen of Solano County. I write today with the hope that Solano County residents join me on June 5th by voting YES on Measure L, the continuation of the 1/8 of a penny sales tax that was approved in 1998 and will expire next year if we don't vote YES for its continuation.

The revenue brought forth over the life of this tax has been instrumental in keeping libraries open and programs offered for citizens at all stages in life.

When I spent $200 recently on school clothes, I was thrilled to know that $0.25 of the roughly $16 in taxes went to fund our libraries. When my husband and I took the plunge on our minivan 5 years ago, I was happy to have less than $40 on a $30,000 vehicle go to directly support our libraries in Solano County.

So few ballot items actually do what they promise, yet we are so fortunate here in Solano Countyto be able to vote YES on Measure L this June to continue this miniscule yet wonderfully successful tax. Please, be a voter on June 5th and vote YES on L.

Didn't O'Reilly's just close on the other side of town? There's a 'for lease' sign on the building.

Great to see the 4th graders getting ready for their 5th grade camp at Alliance Redwoods. I took myRead More 6th graders there for many years and Alliance has an outstanding program that keeps the kids focused on environmental education and stewardship. The night hike through the redwoods was always their favorite (along with the zip line). Note: No need to bring snacks as the dining hall meals has everything you will need, but you may want to bring some extra money for the gift shop. Dan Mattingly/Retired Teacher

Thanks for the post Dean. The Dixon VFW has contributed several thousand dollars so far to bothRead More homes in Dixon and will be contributing a lot more in the future for these Vets. The housing program is managed by the North Bay Coummity Action Council (formerly known as the Fairfield/Suisun CAC). The Vets are very grateful for all the community support.
