This is the first regular Merchant Meeting after the non-profit organization’s annual Board Retreat where goals were set for the coming year so there will be plenty of news to share, say directors, including two new fundraisers and the start of a ‘Shop Local’ campaign.

A walk/run is being discussed and tentatively planned for the spring. It will be coordinated by Kathy King and she is working with a committee to have coupons from merchants to bring participants into their stores, restaurants, and services afterwards.

There is also a plan for a ‘Man Cave Home Tour’ in June around Father’s Day. A committee is seeking participants who will offer their homes on the tour that will be specially inclined for men and their hobbies. At this time, they have approximately six homes and are busily contacting owners for approval to tour.

The Directors had hoped to focus at least a couple of its events to help expose new customers to the local pubs and bars. After the tour, the DDBA hopes to bring participants downtown with an offer for a free beer and dinner discounts.

The calendar of events for the DDBA still includes the upcoming Bud’s Pub Fundraising Dinner and Raffle on Monday, March 4, one wine stroll on August 24, the OktoberFest on October 19, and the annual Tree Lighting Festival on December 5. Membership supports all the activities.

The DDBA holds monthly Merchant Meetings for all its members and concerned citizens. The mission of the DDBA is to enhance the business environment and promote the revitalization of downtown as the cultural center of the community.
