Last night during its regular meeting, the Dixon City Council voted to pass an ordinance that would adopt a two-year trial program for the sales and use of Safe-and-Sane fireworks in Dixon.

The vote passed by a margin of 3-0, with Councilman Rick Fuller and Mayor Jack Batchelor not present to vote.

Under the new ordinance, the city will open up a lottery to non-profit organizations to apply for booths and allow up to eight fireworks stands in the community.  The program will provide a way for non-profit organizations to raise funds for annual programs and events that are offered to the community.

Not all city council members agreed with the new ordinance. Council Member Rick Fuller did not support the ordinance as presented to the council because he had safety concerns.

Fuller suggested that there be no more than three booths for the trial period. Although he was not present, Fuller voiced his concerns through City Manager Nancy Huston. Mayor Jack Batchelor was not present because he was in Washington D.C., on official business.
