Vacaville Police Warn About Gang Task Force Phone Scam
Someone is calling people in the Vacaville area asking for donations for a gang task force. Police say it's a scam.

Vacaville police are warning residents about a scam that involves telephone solicitors asking for money for a nonexistent police task force.
On Friday police received several calls about a person asking for $25 donations for the Vacaville Gang Task Force. The department said it is not soliciting donations for funds for any gang task force and is not aware of an official "Vacaville Gang Task Force."

Other Solano County agencies told Vacaville police authorities they were not involved with any financial solicitation for a Vacaville Gang Task Force.
Police said the telephone scam appears to use the public's fear of gang violence. A police agency would not call community members from a private number to ask for money, police advised.

The department suggested some tips to avoid falling prey to scams, including dealing locally with people and avoiding sharing personal financial information.
The department reminds all residents, "If it seems too good to be true then it usually is."
