By Bay City News

A Vacaville man was seriously injured Sunday morning when a pipe bomb that was hidden in his morning paper exploded, a police spokesman said.

Police evacuated more than 40 homes near a cul-de-sac on Cashel  Circle after officers discovered a man's newspaper exploded when he went to get it at about 10:20 a.m., police spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said.

The man was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. Mazzaferro couldn't comment on the victim's condition this evening. Investigators combed the area for several hours to find clues for who placed the explosive, and residents were later allowed to return to their homes, Mazzaferro said.

Police are looking for suspects involved in the explosion, but did not have any leads as of 7 p.m., he said. Travis Air Force Base personnel and bomb-sniffing dogs were
brought in, as were Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives personnel and the California Highway Patrol's bomb squad.
