Third Residential Burglary Reported Within the Past Week

Dixon Police Department responded to another residential burglary Monday morning, the third burglary reported within the last seven days.

The Dixon Police Department is on the lookout for the individual, or individuals, who are responsible for three residential burglaries reported within the last seven days in Dixon.

The latest burglary was reported to police on Monday, Dec. 20, at 11:15 a.m., at a home on the 600 block of Walnut Park Avenue Dixon Police Sgt. Elaine Perry said. The homeowner reported to police that his home had been burglarized sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, and is in the process of working with police on the items taken from the home Perry said.

Last week on Wednesday, Dec. 15, police went to a home on the 1300 block of West H Street at 12:56 a.m., in response to a burglary report, after only a day earlier responding to a burglary on the 400 block of West C Street at 12:25 p.m., Tuesday. The building on West C Street was empty, Perry said, and nothing was taken.

The items taken from the West H Street were not available as police are investigating the crime. Burglaries are common among this time of year and the Dixon Police Department has tips for being safe and not becoming a victim of a burglary.

"We always ask our public to be vigilant … even more-so with the holidays," Perry said. "A lot of the time they get things for Christmas and they throw the boxes out, they might get a big-screen TV … they have gotten it (as a gift). Burglars are looking for things like that – that indicate there is a big item in the house."

Perry said residents should wait to throw their boxes out until garbage day. She also offered additional tips.

"Always keep the doors locked (and) when you go out in the evening, leave the lights on," she said. "Make sure that their windows are secure."

Perry urges residents to report all suspicious activity by calling the department's dispatch center at (707) 678 7080. No description was available for the burglars, and Perry said that it would be extremely helpful if residents could provide a description of clothing worn, physical features or a description of a vehicle used by burglars to police.

"A description of the plate would be wonderful," she said. "It not, just the make and model (of the vehicle) and how many occupants."

At the same time she said the public should not put themselves in danger to obtain descriptions and to just call police to investigate.
