Solano Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Crash Near Vacaville

By Bay City News Service

The Solano County coroner's office has identified a young man killed in a crash near Vacaville on Saturday afternoon as 19-year-old Ryan F. Whorley.

Whorley, a Vacaville resident, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro on Pleasants Valley Road just north of Foothill Drive, west of Vacaville, when the car went off the roadway around 4:50 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Camaro smashed into a tree in a field east of the roadway, rolled several times and landed on the passenger side facing west, CHP officials said.

Whorley, who CHP investigators said hit the brakes before the car left the pavement, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:20 p.m., according to the coroner's office.

A passenger in the Camaro, 18-year-old Michael R. Fife Jr. of Vacaville, was partially ejected from the car and suffered major injuries, CHP officials said.

He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Investigators believe alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash, which blocked the northbound lane of Pleasants Valley Road for about two hours, according to the CHP.
