Vacaville police say a sex offender wanted for the removal of a GPS monitoring device has been located and taken into custody.

Police were searching for Mark Wayne Speer, 30, a state parolee with a conviction for the sexual assault of a child. Speer is thought to have removed his monitoring bracelet in December, according to police.

He was thought to be in the Vacaville or Fairfield area. However, Speer was taken into custody Friday around 8:45 p.m. in Roseville and booked into Placer County Jail. He is being held without bail.
