Sex Assault Suspect Finally In Solano County Jail After Drinking Bleach, Flying Overseas

Vallejo man, 58, was trying to avoid capture by authorities, according to police.

Vallejo police said a serial sexual assault suspect who tried to flee to England is now in custody.

Surinder Dehal, 58, of Vallejo, is suspected of sexually assaulting a 29-year-old developmentally disabled woman over a four-year period, Vallejo police Lt. Sid DeJesus said.

Dehal was aware police were investigating him as a suspect and he flew to London last week to avoid capture, DeJesus said.

Before Dehal flew to London, Vallejo police contacted him, DeJesus said.

Dehal then drank bleach and was hospitalized for a psychological evaluation, DeJesus said.

Once Dehal was released from the hospital he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, DeJesus said.

He posted bail and tried to flee the country, DeJesus said.

Dehal was denied entry to the United Kingdom and detained upon arrival at Heathrow Airport, DeJesus said.

He was routed to Chicago and taken into custody by the Chicago Police Department on a warrant for his arrest, DeJesus said.

Dehal was held for 24 hours while Vallejo police detectives flew to Chicago where they took him into custody on Saturday.

He is currently being held in the Solano County Jail under $260,000 bail, DeJesus said.
