Ryde Man Killed in Highway 113 Accident

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of an accident in which a 57-year-old Ryde man lost his life Sunday afternoon

A 57-year-old bicyclist lost his life in a traffic accident along Highway 113 near Cook Lane in Dixon Sunday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said that the man, a resident of Ryde (unincorporated Sacramento County) whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, was riding a Diamondback Sorrento mountain bike north along the highway at 1:59 p.m., when he was struck from behind by 21-year-old Taylor Boe, of Orange, who was also driving north in a 2003 Hyndai Tiburon on his way to visit family in Vacaville.

“He was struck from behind, he came to rest on the right shoulder (of the highway),” CHP Sgt. Jason Hekker said.

Dixon Fire Engineer Josh Smotherman said that it’s not often that firefighters respond to accidents along that particular stretch of highway, but when they do, it’s usually for something major.

Hekker said that witnesses said Boe was driving either at or just above the speed limit of 55 miles per hour on the roadway. He said that Boe is not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and said a toxicology report will determine if the Ryde man was.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and Hekker said that CHP officers still needed to talk to a few more witnesses before determining the cause.

“There is no real right-of-way issue, yet,” Hekker said.

The roadway was closed to allow for a Solano County Sheriff’s coroner to examine the body. Anyone who witnessed this accident is encouraged to contact the CHP at (707) 428 2100.
