#ButtsFire: 4 Injured, 2 Homes Destroyed in 4,300-Acre Fire 85% Contained Sunday P.M.

Resources and manpower are now being diverted to the nearby, fast-growing #MonticelloFire -- at 7,000 acres in two days.

UPDATED: Sunday, July 6, 9 p.m.

Firefighters battling the Butts Canyon Fire in Napa County over the weekend have brought the blaze to 85 percent containment tonight, Cal Fire officials said.

Since the fire broke out near Butts Canyon and Oak Valley roads just after noon on Tuesday, four people were injured.

Two homes and seven outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze as well, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Chris Christopherson.

By Thursday, the blaze had scorched 4,300 acres of land located northwest of Lake Berryessa, Christopherson said.

At its peak, fighting the fire took the efforts of 1,682 fire personnel, 101 fire engines, 60 fire crews, 10 bulldozers, nine helicopters, and four air tankers.

Cal Fire officials said that flare-ups have been an issue, but are being quickly extinguished.

Firefighters are now patrolling the area looking for, and extinguishing, hot spots. Road closures and evacuation orders have been lifted.

Firefighting resources have started the demobilization process and are becoming available to support new incidents, including the roughly 7,000-acre Monticello Fire burning on the southeast edge of Lake Berryessa since Friday night, Christopherson said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. For information on how to prepare for wildfires, go to www.readyforwildfire.org.
