A fatal shooting near the Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center late Tuesday afternoon is related to an earlier shooting in Fairfield, a Vacaville police sergeant said.

Xavier Lopez, 24, a transient, allegedly shot a Fairfield man multiple times after a short but intense confrontation in Fairfield around 4:15 p.m., Sgt. Jeff King said.

The Fairfield shooting victim, who is expected to recover, is not being identified, but he is known to Xavier Lopez and his half-brother German Lopez, 31, of Fairfield, King said.

King said German Lopez then fatally shot Xavier Lopez multiple times after a heated confrontation outside the hospital at 1 Quality Drive in Vacaville around 5:17 p.m., King said.

Xavier Lopez was found near the entrance to the hospital emergency room. He was treated for his injuries in the emergency room but died later Tuesday evening, King said.

German Lopez was arrested at Fairfield Police Headquarters and booked in the Solano County jail on suspicion of murder, King said. Police are still examining the motive for the shootings, and said the weapons used in them are now in police custody. No other suspects are being sought in connection with the shootings.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call police at (707) 449-5200 or Detective Chris Lechuga at (707) 449-5269.
