Pittsburg Man Drowns, 2 Teens Saved at Beach in Rio Vista

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Rio Vista Fire Department rescued the two teens

A Pittsburg man drowned in the waters off Sandy Beach Park in Rio Vista Tuesday afternoon but two boys ages 16 and 17 were rescued, the Solano County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office was informed at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday that three swimmers were unable to swim to shore because of strong currents, sheriff's Lt. Gary Faulkner said.

The sheriff's office contacted the U.S. Coast Guard Station at Rio Vista, the Rio Vista Fire Department, and Medic Ambulance, Faulkner said.

The Coast Guard recovered one of the boys while responding to the scene and a Rio Vista firefighter jumped in the water and rescued the other boy, Faulkner said.

Silver Jubilation Tuakalua, 31, of Pittsburg, was last seen swimming in the area if the Sandy Beach boat dock, Faulkner said.

The Solano County Dive Team recovered his body around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Faulkner said.

An autopsy Wednesday determined that he drowned, Faulkner said.
