The collision, which involved at least two cars, was reported at about 4:55 a.m. on eastbound Highway 80, just west of the Dixon Avenue off-ramp, Officer James Evans said.

A Sig-alert was issued at 5:05 a.m. when the CHP closed two left lanes in the area of the Dixon Avenue exit, Evans said.

Drivers were directed to use the slow lane and the right shoulder to pass through as crews cleaned up the scene, he said.

At about 5:20 a.m., eastbound Highway 80 was completely shut down at Midway Road to allow a medical helicopter to land. The helicopter airlifted one crash victim to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Evans said.

That person was pronounced dead at the hospital, he said. The victim's name has not yet been released.

At 6:49 a.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic, Evans said.
