NEW Twists in Fairfield Shootings: 2 Suspects Are Brothers; Now Sister Arrested, Too

Fairfield police released more information today about two officer-involved shootings that occurred near the Walmart Supercenter Thursday afternoon.

The men who were shot, Markell Davis, 27, of Fairfield, and Cory Davis, 33, of Suisun City are brothers, police said.

Markell Davis was booked today into the Solano County jail and Cory Davis is still in a hospital, police said.

The  FBI Safe Streets Task Force, Fairfield police narcotics detectives and the Solano County Fugitive Apprehension Team were trying to locate the Davis brothers Thursday in Fairfield.

Markell Davis was a suspect in attempted shooting murder that occurred on Feb. 17 on Clay Bank Road in Fairfield, and Cory Davis was wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Vacaville on Feb. 19, police said.

The FBI task force spotted Markell Davis in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 2700 block of N. Texas Street around 2:45 p.m.

He was allegedly armed with a handgun when officers tried to take him into custody, and one task force member shot him in the head and hand because he feared for his and the public's safety, according to police.

Markell was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Cory Davis was spotted at the same time getting in and out of vehicles to conceal himself at the Bennington Apartments  in the 2700 block of N. Texas Street, police said.

He was stopped in a vehicle with several small children believed to be related to him, police said.

Cory Davis fled into the apartment complex, and officers saw him reaching into his waist area while trying to escape, police said.

Police were aware Cory Davis was wanted for attempted murder, and a Fairfield police officer shot him in the leg.

Davis had a handgun concealed in his pants when he was arrested, and he also was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

While searching for the Davis brothers, narcotics detectives discovered evidence of drug trafficking in an apartment in the 2700 block of N. Texas Street that is associated with their 30-year-old sister Kelly Davis, police said.

Detectives got a warrant to search the apartment and found narcotics, ammunition and magazines for a handgun similar to the one Markell had when he was arrested, police said.

Kelly Davis was arrested for suspected possession of drugs and maintaining a drug house, and drug charges against the Davis brothers are pending, police said.

Police said the Davis brothers are convicted felons with an extensive history of drug and gun offenses, and Cory Davis spent time in prison.

The attempted murders they are suspected of involved brazen shootings from moving vehicles in an area where public safety was at risk, police said.

An uninvolved motorist was shot multiple times in the Feb. 17 Fairfield shooting, and both brothers were considered immediate risks to the public, police said.

Fairfield police and the Solano County District Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting of the Davis brothers, police said.
