Dixon and Vacaville firefighters put out a two-alarm blaze at a barn filled with moving boxes on North Meridian Road Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to the 9:53 a.m. fire at 7431 North Meridian Road, and had it contained by 11 a.m.
Fire Chief Aaron McAlister said it was an accidental fire caused by saw dust build-up that ignited when the saw was recently used.
The roughly $5,000 in damages was mostly to the contents of the barn, according to McAlister. The actual structure was made of metal and only suffered minimal damage to a few sky lights, he said.
Property owners Butch and Joyce White had just moved in three weeks ago, and the barn was filled with moving boxes.
Joyce White held back tears as she explained, "We just moved my mom’s belongings from Nevada here last week. It was filled with more than 20 years of her things."
The barn is set in the back of the property, hidden behind trees.
Joyce White said her husband witnessed smoke from the barn and immediately began spraying the flames with water from a hose. A neighbor noticed the smoke, called 911 and brought a hose over to help as well.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
