Fairfield Teen Busted for Allegedly Attacking Woman, Trying To Steal Cell in Walnut Creek

A Fairfield teen was caught and arrested after allegedly attacking a woman as he tried to steal her cell phone in Walnut Creek Wednesday night, police said. 

The female victim was walking through the breezeway atBroadway Plaza at 9:23 p.m. when a black male wearing a bright orange jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans walked up from behind her and attempted to grab her cell phone from her hand, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department

When the woman resisted, the suspect reportedly kicked and hit her and pulled her to the ground as he continued to grab at her phone, police said. 

The victim's screams alerted other shoppers and the suspect ran off, police said. 

Responding officers were told the youth was last seen running south through Broadway Plaza towards Newell Avenue, and within minutes, police units located a possible suspect on Newell across from Broadway Plaza. 

The subject was identified by the victim and another witness as being the attempted robber, police said. He was transported toJuvenile Hall in Martinez and booked. 

An orange jacket was later recovered near Main/Broadway Plaza which matched the description given by the victim, police said. 

The victim sustained a minor scrape to her elbow during the robbery, and the investigation continues.
