Fairfield Man Struck, Killed By Train This Morning Near Suisun City

The Solano County coroner's office has identified a man who was struck and killed by a train this morning in Suisun City as 40-year-old Ryan Fong of Fairfield.

Fong was walking west within the Union Pacific railroad tracks at Sunset Avenue and East Travis Boulevard when he was struck by a westbound Amtrak train around 9:45 a.m., Suisun City police said.

Police turned the investigation over to Union Pacific when they arrived. Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said the man was walking within the rails when he was struck by a Coast Starlight train a half-mile from the Suisun City station.

The train with 326 passengers was traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles and was slowing down as it approached the Suisun City station, Graham said.

The train was delayed 2 hours and 28 minutes, Graham said.

The collision also caused delays to other trains, including one from Emeryville to Chicago, and four Capitol Corridor trains in the Sacramento and San Jose area, Graham said.

There were delays of about 20 minutes through this afternoon, she said.
