Dixon Teenager Sentenced in Vandalism Case

Dixon 19-year-old will spend 120 days in jail, be on probation for three years and pay hundreds of dollars in restitution

Anyone who does graffiti in Dixon may want to take notice of the vandalism case against a 19-year-old Dixon man who was recently sentenced in Solano County Superior Court.

On Aug. 5, Michaeljon Troupe 19, appeared in court and was sentenced to 120 days in jail, three years probation and ordered to pay over $1,400 in restitution stemming from acts of vandalism in Dixon.

On May 20, Troupe and another Dixon Teenager -- Marcus Early -- were after a concerned Dixon citizen phoned police and informed them that the duo was tagging up on 825 N. Adams St.

Troupe was also charged with tagging a neighborhood barrier wall. On Aug 5., Troupe pled no contest to one felony count of vandalism and one misdemeanor count of vandalism stemming from the aforementioned incidents.

"Thewould like to remind citizen that graffiti hurts everyone who lives and works in Dixon," a department press release stated. "In these difficult economic times, it is an unfair burden placed on citizens, businesses, Schools, and the City of Dixon to incur financial and property loss through senseless acts of vandalism."

The police department warns that most graffiti happens in the late evening or early morning hours, usually under the cover of darknes. 

The department puts a call out to citizens who witness tagging to phone police.

"Graffiti vandals are difficult to catch and prosecute if no one reports them," said the release. "The Dixon Police Department encourages residents to call when they see any suspicious activity or someone in the act of graffiti vandalism. In addition, the police department asks for the citizen’s help if they have any information that may help identify those responsible for graffiti in our city."

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call the Solano County Crime Stoppers tip line at 707-644-STOP (7867). All calls are anonymous and confidential. A reward for up to $1000 may be paid for information that leads to an arrest.
