Around noontime, Dixon Fire crews responded to a report of a grass fire along Highway 505 north of Allendale Road Dixon Fire Division Chief Ron Karlen said.

Moments after Dixon Fire crews had arrived on scene, a utility truck traveling along the highway collided with a CalFire vehicle that had responded to assist Dixon, sending the female driver of the truck to the hospital with major injuries, Karlen said.

"It wasn't a big fire, but then we had the vehicle accident with entrapment, we had extrication needed (and) we were committed to the fire," Karlen said.

Vacaville City fire crews responded to the vehicle accident as part of a mutual aid agreement and extricated the woman from the truck. The Vacaville firefighters called in an air ambulance to transport the woman, whose name has not yet been made available, to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries.

Two CalFire firefighters who were inside the CalFire vehicle when the woman rear-ended them were not hurt, but were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, Karlen said.

"They were shaken up," Karlen said. "They’ll be OK."

The California Highway Patrol shut down a stretch of Highway 505 to allow a landing space for the air ambulance. The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

The fire that started along Winters Road burned about five acres of vegetation before Dixon Fire crews managed to contain and put the fire out. In all, Karlen estimates that it took firefighters about 20 minutes to knock out the fire, and about 30 minutes for the accident to be cleared up.

Flames charred brush and a couple of telephone poles in the fire's path. No injuries stemming from the fire itself were reported and the cause is under investigation.
