Matt was nominated for always being there for the Department and Department personnel, regardless of the task ahead of him. He constantly goes above and beyond his assigned duties, and generally accomplishes this with a positive attitude and a smile on his face.

In Dixon, the Firefighter of the Year Honor is earned by being nominated by your peers.  It is then vetted by an awards committee consisting of a cross section of the department, McAlister explained.

"Receiving this honor is a clear sign Matt has earned the respect of his peers," McAlister said. "Matt is being recognized for his commitment to the fire service, our department and our community."

He is charged with multiple projects, and recently implemented a workout program for his shift. He motivates others by his positive attitude and good work ethic, and he has done this in the five short years he has been with this Department.

Matt and his wife Stacey reside in Vacaville with their two children, Anthony and Ashlynn.

It is with great pride that the recognizes Matt Fields as its Firefighter of the Year for 2011.

Fields will be honored next Friday night at a dinner in Fairfield hosted by the rotary clubs of the county. He will also be honored Saturday night at the annual awards dinner at the Dixon Fire Department.
