Dixon Crash Sends 6 to the Hospital, 1 with Major Injuries

The CHP is investigating the cause of the wreck that send six people to the hospital, clogged up traffic Sunday morning.

A nasty accident along Interstate 80 west of the A Street exit in Dixon sent six people to the hospital with injuries and clogged up traffic Sunday morning.

The accident was reported at 9:52 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Parker said.

Rachael Martinez, 38, of Vallejo, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado when she was hit from behind by a 2007 Subaru Outback driven by Caitlin Wild, 25, of Eureka, Parker said.

“After the collision, both vehicles spun off the right-hand shoulder through a barbed wire fence and into a drainage ditch,” Parker said.  “Everybody in the cars had minor injuries, complaints of pain.”

Parker said one individual, Steven Mason, 25, who was a passenger in Wild’s vehicle, sustained a broken leg and was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Vacaville.

The rest of the individuals involved in the accident were taken to local hospitals, by ambulance Parker said.

The traffic along that particular stretch of Highway 80 was backed up from Elmira to Dixon as CHP and crews cleared up the scene of the wreck. In addition, a dog that was riding in one of the vehicles had reportedly ran into a nearby orchard.

The dog – reported as a golden retriever, black Labrador mix – was found Sunday evening by an Dixon resident who said that the dog was unfortunately hit by a car. The condition of the dog is not known.

Parker said there were no arrests made in this incident and that drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be contributing factors. The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
