With many Dixon residents likely traveling out of town for the holidays, the city is suggesting a simple measure to make your home less of a target:
Don't leave telephone answering machine messages such as "You've reached the Taylor's; we're away celebrating the holidays...leave a message."
Bad guys see this as an invitation to commit crime by breaking into your home.
