CHP Officer Revives Dixon Boy Who Stopped Breathing

A California Highway Patrol officer revived a 5-year-old Dixon boy who stopped breathing during an asthma attack on Saturday, a CHP spokesman said today.

CHP Officer Jeff Traweek responded to a medical emergency on the Midway Road off-ramp from westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Vacaville around 9:15 p.m., Officer Craig Kuehl said.

Traweek saw a green Lexus on the right shoulder and was met by a hysterical Erika Price, of Dixon, carrying her limp 5-year-old son, Kuehl said.

Price said her son was not breathing, Kuehl said.

Traweek did not detect a pulse and requested an ambulance, Kuehl said. He then gave the boy CPR for six minutes until his pulse returned and performed rescue breathing until the boy began to breathe on his own, Kuehl said.

Paramedics from the Dixon Fire Department took over treatment and took the boy to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vacaville, Kuehl said.

CHP Officer James Morrell took the boy's mother to the hospital, Kuehl said.
