Boy Killed in Rural Accident Thursday Identifed

More details released on yesterday's tragic accident.

By Bay City News
The Solano County coroner's office has identified the 15-year-old boy who was killed in a solo-vehicle crash Thursday morning near Dixon as Alex Osuna.

Osuna, a Vacaville resident, was a passenger in a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS driven by an unlicensed 16-year-old Vacaville boy, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Linehan said.

The driver was apparently speeding on Fry Road near Clark Road in unincorporated Vacaville, where the speed limit is 55 mph, Linehan said.

The Trailblazer went off the road and struck a power pole, shearing it on impact. The vehicle then went airborne over a dirt creek canal 20 feet wide and 20 feet deep, Linehan said.

The Trailblazer landed more than 100 feet away in a field after rolling several times, he said.

Osuna was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver suffered major injuries. Both boys were wearing seatbelts and there were no other cars on the two-lane road when the crash happened, Linehan said.

Speed and inexperience were the primary factors in the crash and alcohol and drug use are not suspected, Linehan said.

The teen driver's name is not being released because he is a juvenile facing possible charges in connection with the deadly crash, Linehan said.

Osuna's autopsy is scheduled for early next week, coroner's Deputy Gregg Spanos said.
