Two Sacramento residents lost their lives in a traffic collision along Interstate 80 Sunday morning; the California Highway Patrol said alcohol was a factor in the wreck.

The crash was reported at 5:23 a.m., this morning on west Highway 80, just east of Airbase Parkway.

Police say that Michelle Henry, 42, of Sacramento was driving a 2008 Buick Lucerne at a high rate of speed behind a Sacramento man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, who was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer in the fourth lane of the highway.

Henry struck the rear of the Sacramento motorist's Explorer causing her vehicle to overturn in the right hand shoulder of the highway and into the trees and bushes, according to the CHP.

The Sacramento man's Explorer crossed all traffic lanes along west Highway 80 and struck the center divider. The Explorer overturned and came to rest on its roof in the second lane of the highway.

The driver of the Explorer and his passenger, Floyd Williams Jr., 33, of Sacramento, exited the vehicle and were attempting to help another passenger out of the Explorer when a third motorist -- Michael Soto, 34, of Sacramento, traveling west in a Toyota Corolla -- collided with the overturned Explorer.

The collision caused fatal injuries to the driver of the Explorer as he was thrown into the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. The passenger who was in the Explorer also sustained fatal injuries according to the CHP.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and closed down Highway 80 for approximately three hours to investigate the cause of the wreck and clear up the scene of the accident.

Soto sustained minor injuries during the crash and was taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital. Williams, one of the two passengers in the Explorer, sustained minor injuries and was taken to North Bay Hospital for treatment.

Henry, whom police said caused the initial crash, was medically cleared for minor injuries at North Bay Hospital. The CHP arrested Henry on suspicion of DUI causing injury and possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Both the identities of the driver of the Explorer and his 25-year-old male passenger, also of Sacramento, are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
