Opinion: Still Not a Bandwagon Fan During Super Bowl 2012

My opinion of this year's Super Bowl.

I have a dilemma. I have no idea who I want to see lose during this year's Super Bowl. Yes, I'm a hater and I'll tell you why.

I've been a fan of the San Francisco 49ers since the age of three and the Niners, despite having a stellar season under Coach Jim Harbaugh were outplayed during the NFC Championship against the New York Giants.

I was stunned that the Niners lost to a team they beat earlier in the season, and did so on their home turf. But like our sports contributor Peter Fournier likes to say, Eli Manning is a different quarterback during the offseason.

His play is much more honed, and he is essentially a beast during the playoffs. I don't want the Giants to win.

Next, we have the New England Patriots, a team who under coach Bill Belichik and quarterback Tom Brady have dominated the AFC and essentially breezed their way into the Super Bowl.I don't want the Patriots to win.

Hence my dilemma. For me, it's a choice of the lesser evil - is it a team who beat my Niners when they shouldn't have? Or is it the Patriots who truly believe they can walk on water?

And what about this year's Super Bowl? I jokingly referred to it as the Super Snore Bowl this year because we've seen this matchup before, with the Giants beating the Patriots in spectacular fashion, denying them of the perfect season - much to the delight of the 1972 Miami Dolphins.

It was awesome.

Seeing it again would be one of those been-there-done-that moments for me. I'd rather play some Madden Football on the XBOX 360 than watch the Super Bowl.

But something about the Big Game changed my mind. And no it wasn't the commercials. I hate commercials, always have, always will.

It's the fact that it's the last football game until the next season. I will be starved of football action until fall. I want to see at least one more game before the waiting begins.

Just can't bring myself to miss the Super Bowl.

But while I'm watching it, I will be with the thought of "It should have been the Niners in the Bowl."

There's always next year.

To the Giants and Patriots, don't care if you win, don't care if you lose, don't care for your teams, always be a Niners fan, but I will be watching y'all today alongside the rest of the Nation.
