Bring LucasFilm to Solano County!

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

The headlines should read "LucasFilm Building in Solano County."

As you may already know, LucasFilm pulled their plans to build in Marin County after homeowners there refused to cooperate with them.  Since then a number of other counties have begun pursuing the studio hoping to bring their business to them.  Solano should be the top contender and a new grouping of local residents agree.

We've just launched a Facebook and change.org petition campaign to garner support. We, the people behind 'Bring LucasFilm to Solano County', are hoping to enlist, neigh, inspire local media and newspapers to join in the effort to make this rare opportunity a reality for Solano County.

Thousands of jobs will be created as a result of the economic boon by having a hollywood studio in our backyard.

But we're not alone.  Many other counties have already begun pursuing the studio giving us stiff competition.  Would you please consider raising awareness by running a story and questioning county leaders about this opportunity?

Good job Dane! We need to look at the opportunities out there. Time spent talking to great companies and great employers is time well spent in my opinion.

I found this detailed description of the proposed Marin Facility that might interest some readers. The plan called for a 270,000-square-foot digital production studio in the hills near Lucas Valley Road, including offices, a restaurant for employees, a retail store, a wine tasting room, screening rooms and storage. There would have also been 20 employee guest suites, a parking garage and an outdoor stage. The Highway 80 exposure is perfect for his store and wine tasting room. I can see all of the other components working well on the proposed site as well. I'd suggest an organic vineyard on the undeveloped land.

Really????????????????? There is not a single person on the facebook page or on this site that is from Vallejo or promoting Mare Island, this looks more like a Solano East promotion. I think any place in Solano Co would benefit the entire county. I of course would rather it be at Mare Island since I live in Vallejo and see the value of three major highways converging at one point for commuters... Once you get East into Solano Co it gets a bit removed from the Bay Area

They are currently shooting in Vancouver, Dixon is much closer than Vancouver. They want a retail outlet onsite.... Highway 80 has a strong flow of traffic all week long that would supply an endless stream of buyers/visitors. Think about the fact that there is no pollution, toxic chemicals or historic buildings to deal with. They are already in talks with the towns they are interested in.
