Jan.12 1930 – Nov. 12, 2013

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 Barbara P. McGrew passed away. She was born Jan. 12, 1930 and was a long time resident of Dixon. She moved to Dixon with her family when she was 14 years old from Philo, and attended Dixon High School. She was courted by and married Kenneth, home from the war in the Pacific during World War II.

They resided in Dixon and had three sons. She worked at First National Bank and was an accountant at the Dixon Livestock Auction, while Kenneth worked as a teamster at Stoeven Brothers Meat Plant. She later worked as administrative secretary at Main Prairie Water District until her retirement in 1991. Upon their retirement, the couple enjoyed their vacation cabin and fishing at Lake Almanor.

Barbara was active in many pursuits and organizations. She was a tireless caregiver to Kenneth when he was stricken with debilitating arthritis until his death in 2007. Through the Methodist Church, she turned her attention to helping others in the community, stopping in for visits, and giving rides when needed. After surgery for cancer in 2010, Barbara continued to enjoy activities with the Dixon Historical Society and Bridge Club and many other interests.

She is survived by her wonderful sons Robert (Brea) with daughter Mekena, Rodney (Marti) with sons Russell, Blake Chase, Tim (Linda) with daughter Erinn and son Michael; sister Ann Rohwer. Barbara also was blessed with two great grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov 19, at Dixon Methodist Church. Private burial service will be held earlier at the Sacramento Valley VA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, 95817.
