Confessions of a Cake Lady: Start a Blog

This Cake Lady needed to make some big choices, & changes to get healthy & happy. Follow this blog for motivation, recipes, & fun topics on the path of a mother, wife, student, health advocate.

When my youngest of three kids began Kindergarten last year, I had no idea what to do with myself for those 35 hours a week I was suddenly left completely alone. For years I had imagined when all the kids are in school, all the free time would be so exciting, me time. Within the blink of an eye, it was here.

Now what.

I had already established a small, in home, cake business where I made cakes for friends, friends of friends, and family. This seemed the most logical area to funnel my sudden boredom. Soon I was cranking out 8-10 cakes a week, had a huge following on my Facebook page and considered being a Cake Lady an efficient creative outlet for myself.

I would drop the kids off at school, grab my coffee, blare the radio, get the house chores done, bust out the orders for the day, get it all cleaned up just in time to pick the kids up at 2:30 PM, then it was homework, dinner, bedtime and, whew, a glass of wine and TiVo time with the husband.

Being a stay at home mom with a home business has amazing perks. Setting my own schedule flexible schedule, no boss, 100% commission with no overhead.

However, there are drawbacks as well. Being alone all day; the pet pug wasn't great for conversation. Being surrounded by sugary deliciousness all day; one can't serve cake that you're not confident tastes great, to people paying you for it! I quickly gained 40+ pounds within only a few months without even realizing it.

I knew I had to make a change. It was time for me to figure myself out. I resolved to start making choices, rather than settling into easy options.

Choice number one: Get healthy. Check.

Choice number two: Get out of the house. Check.

Choice number three: Try new things. Check.

Choice number four: Go back to school. Check.

Choice number five: Start a blog, CHECK!

For the sake keeping this interesting to read, I'll stop myself here and start with getting healthy next time.

My plan for this blog is to guide you through my road to healthy living, as a mother, wife, student and cake lady with motivation, recipes, topics you might relate to, and fun milestones along the way.
