Clean Up Downtown Thursday Morning!
Come Help Clean Up Dixon
The public is invited to burn a few extra calories and enjoy some community camaraderie cleaning up downtown Dixon next Thursday, July 18.
The Kiwanis Club of Dixon and Vaca Valley volunteers, the Downtown Dixon Business Association members, and some helpers from the City of Dixon are hoping some other folks in the community will help us clean up the downtown core in preparation for downtown’s biggest event of the year—the Grillin’ and Chillin’ Rib & Chili Cook-off and Car Show on Saturday, July 20.

We are in luck—I checked the weather for that Thursday and it is supposed to be overcast but you might want to wear sun block and a wide-brimmed hat just in case.
We will need leaf blowers, brooms, and cobweb dusters if you can loan them for use, too. We are meeting in front of Nana & Co. Children’s Boutique, 14 North First Street only because I already asked the owner if we could use her electricity for the 100-foot extension cord and guess what—she was most obliging!

I’ve taken care of the area in front of my shop as I always do but there are empty storefronts and walking areas that will need the extra help. We are reminded that people don’t join Kiwanis—they join Kiwaniians!
Several Business Bits
I just learned that Allstate Insurance sold to a new owner, and also noticed that Kappel & Kappel has merged with Coldwell Banker in Dixon due to the new banners up on the building.
I also saw the Verizon Wireless store next to Starbucks closed this past week and I saw a classified ad in the Tribune for help wanted for the Firehouse Bistro that will open soon downtown. But, I haven’t got any details on that so will have to post you next week.
Chamber Ribbon Cutting and Mixer
We just held a ribbon cutting for DeMichelle-Huseby, a new deposition service that opened at 255 North Lincoln, Suite H, where Bill Bernheim’s law office is.
Also want to remind folks that after Grillin’ and Chillin’, there is still local fun to be had at the Dixon Chamber Mixer which will be at the American Legion Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 5:30-7 pm. They promise food, fun, and friends and there is a cost of $5 for Chamber members and $10 for non-Chamber.
Christmas in July
Carol Parker from Atkinson Storage will be hosting an evening for potential Christmas tree decorator for the annual Festival of Trees. Carol and other avid garage sale shoppers have contributed to a large pool of decorations to recycle and use for this year’s variety of themed-trees.
She is opening her doors (literally) on Tuesday, July 31, 7- 8 pm and the decorations are free to decorators so if you’re thinking about participating in this years annual event in December, come take a look and see if there are some special things to add to your preparations.
For more information, call Carol at (707) 693-9200. The facility is located at 1800 North First Street.

An average American child smiles 375 times per day. Adults, on the other hand, smile on the average of only 17 times per day. My recommendation is that you spend time today, being childish! TTFN!
