News from the City of Dixon, the Dixon Fire Department and the Dixon Police Department:
As the City of Dixon prepares for the upcoming July Fourth Holiday, the Dixon Fire Department and the Dixon Police Department want to remind citizens and visitors to use their fireworks in a safe and sane manner.
The sale and use of State Fire Marshal approved fireworks is allowed in the Dixon City Limits. Fire Chief Aaron McAlister wants to remind the public that, “There are still some limits to the use of the fireworks in the City.”
Fireworks can be used on City streets in residential neighborhoods. Use of fireworks should not affect traffic or be used on the main thorough fares including all of First Street and all of “A” Street.
The Fire Chief has designated two areas in public parks for the use of fireworks; softball diamond number 2, in Hall Park nearest the Skate Park at the end of Chestnut Street and the basketball court in Northwest Park.
Fireworks cannot be used at any other city property.
In addition to City Property, all fireworks are prohibited on the May Fair Grounds.
McAlister continues, “You may use the fireworks from Noon to 11 pm on June 28 and 9:00 A.M. to 11: 00 P.M. from June 29th to July 6th”.
The fire department also wants to remind people that safe and sane fireworks have only been legalized for sale and use in the city limits. Any possession or use of fireworks outside the City is illegal. Any fireworks that do not have the CA State Fire Marshal seal of approval or any fireworks that that leave the ground or explode are dangerous and illegal.
It is dangerous and illegal for juveniles to use or possess fireworks outside the presence of an adult.
Dixon Fire Marshal Greg Lewis stated, “Extreme caution is the word of the day as we prepare for the 4th of July Holiday. Even the Safe and Sane fireworks are and can be dangerous if misused or altered from their original form. Every year in California there are documented cases of injuries and fires started by the use of safe and sane fireworks.”
Fire Chief Aaron McAlister added “the prolonged drought conditions have brought extreme fire conditions to Northern Solano County. Forecasts are calling for a rise in temperatures, over 90 degrees through the 4th of July Holiday. We are very much in the middle of fire season and have been for many weeks. We have already seen large fires in Solano County this season. “
The residents of Dixon will see an enhanced enforcement effort in the community during the holiday from both the Dixon Police and Fire Departments. State and Local laws will be strictly enforced.
Penalties range from monetary fines to criminal prosecution.
The Fire Department encourages citizens to prepare and celebrate safely. Fireworks should be properly cooled with water prior to disposal in trash receptacles.
Additionally, you should not use fireworks in or near dry vegetation or near any buildings and require adult supervision at all times.
