Mission Solano Won't Let Turkey Thefts Ruin Their Thanksgiving

Despite the theft of dozens of frozen turkeys from one of its freezers Sunday night, Fairfield's Mission Solano still intends to provide meals for those in need this Thanksgiving.

The theft was discovered at about 6:15 a.m. Monday at Mission Solano's Community Outreach Center at 740 Travis Blvd., chief operating officer Raymond Courtemanche said this morning.

The thief broke a window to get in, and an unknown number of turkeys were taken from a large freezer on the floor, Courtemanche said. "We didn't count them, but we're trying to collect 900 turkeys," he said.

About 750 turkeys with all the fixings are to be distributed in food baskets on Nov. 26, and another 150 birds will be provided as meals for the hungry at the Outreach Center on Thanksgiving Day, Courtemanche said.

Mission Solano has received more than 250 turkeys from donors since the theft, Courtemanche said. "This incident is not going to take us back from sharing hope with a meal," he said.
