Would you feel confident working with your first grader with hexagons, vertices, and the Associative Property of Addition? No? Join us for: DINNER AND MATH FOR PARENTS

The Academy of 21st Century Learning wants all parents to feel more comfortable helping their students with homework. With the introduction of the new Common Core curriculum, math is not what it used to be. Even math-wiz parents can be tripped up by the changing language in the math classroom. Take something as elementary as subtraction, for example: did you know that “borrowing” is now exclusively called “regrouping”? Do you know what the Zero Property of Multiplication is? Number bonding? Your second and third graders may need help with these topics.

To facilitate this, The Academy of 21st Century Learning is hosting a Dinner and Math event at their center on Thursday, December 5th from 5:30-8:00pm. This event is designed to build community with a potluck-style meal, followed by a workshop that will help parents dust off their knowledge of fractions, decimals, exponents, word problems, and algebra.  Won’t it be nice to know what your kids are talking about when they ask you for help with their homework on benchmark fractions? All parents will take home a handout on tips and tricks to help with Common Core math.

The Academy of 21st Century Learning was founded on the idea that students of all ages (yes- that includes you, parents!) have an unlimited capacity for learning. Whether students need remedial help or want to discover more beyond the classroom, The Academy is proud to provide solutions to these challenges. Bright, unfailingly encouraging tutors are always available to help students at every level.
