Hot Temps Push On, How to Keep Cool

Region officials urge residents to find ways to beat the heat.

National Weather Service representatives announced today "record-breaking heat will once again affect much of the western U.S." To stay cool, region officials encourage residents revisit ways to avoid the heat.

In the Valley, area forecasters predict today's temperatures could range between 103 and 105, including Dixon.

• Avoiding hot foods and heavy meals

• If planning to camp or attend outdoor events, make an effort to find shade and pack extra water.

• Staying cool indoors in air-conditioned facilities, especially during the hottest part of the day. 

• Residents who do not have adequate air conditioning should find a friend or relative to stay with during the hottest parts of the day, or another location where air conditioning is available such as a public building, shopping center, restaurant or movie theater.

• Don’t forget pets and livestock, they need extra water and shade

Sacramento City and County officials recently released the following list of cooling tips.

Tips for staying cool

• Limit outside activities

• Avoid becoming dehydrated

• Drink plenty of water

• Stay in cool environment

• Dress appropriately, wear lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing

• Drink cold drinks

• Taking cool showers to lower body temperature

• Limit sun exposure
