Dixon Valero Cited for Selling Alcohol to Minor

Compliance checks were done as part of a County and grant funded Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) prevention program last week.

The Dixon Valero Gas Station was cited last week for selling alcohol to a minor.

Dixon PD Sgt. Tegeler reports, “Dixon PD conducted an alcohol and tobacco compliance check of several of the local businesses, using minors, on June 13, 2013. The Valero Gas Station, located in the 100 block of Dorset Drive, was issued a citation for selling alcohol to a person under 21 years of age.”

Four other retailers were randomly swept and found to be in compliance.

Survey statistics revealed, 31% of DHS freshman have consumed an alcoholic beverage in the last 30 days, and 16% have used marijuana in the last 30 days, a 2% increase since 2011.

The goals of ATOD are to:

¨ Delay initial use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among children and youth in Solano County

¨ Reduce the overall proportion of Solano County residents who use ATOD

¨ Reduce the impact of ATOD on communities, families and individuals

¨ Advocate for policies and actions that increase access to health care, support healthy behaviors and healthy communities

The 12 member ATOD board meets monthly, working in cooperation with Parent Teacher Associations, Police, Healthcare representation, and other community organizations to sponsor and support Retail Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance Checks, Community Outreach, the Community Block Party, the “Make this the Only Beer you have for Gradation” Campaign which gives DHS seniors root beers on the last day of school, Social Host Ordinance, Drugged Driving Prevention Activities, and Prevention Trainings.

Hull invites all interested community members to get involved. The next meeting will be held on June 19, 12 noon, at Dixon City Hall.
