Caitlin O'Halloran Announces Campaign for DUSD Board, Three Seats Expiring

With three seats expiring and no challengers yet, the Dixon Montessori Charter School Co-Founder has pretty good odds of election.

The Dixon Unified School District will have three open spots this election year, as seats of President Gil Pinon, Vice President Irina Okhremtchouk, and Member Herb Cross will expire.

The DUSD office reports, Herb Cross has confirmed he will not run again, however, there have been no announcements from other incumbents.

One community office-seeker has come forward thus far; Caitlin O’Halloran declared her candidacy last week, beginning her campaign with a kick-off party on July 11 and officially pulling papers today.

Although the filing period opened just this week, candidates have a short filing period; paperwork must be submitted at the Solano County Registrar of Voters by August 9. Should no other candidate choose to run, the Board could become responsible for appointing members to serve.

According to the California School Board Association handbook, School boards are nonpartisan. Candidates for boards are not required to belong to a political party.

In California, you may be elected or appointed to a governing board of a school district if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older;
  • a citizen of the state;
  • a resident of the school district;
  • a registered voter; and
  • not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office.
  • not an employee of a school district

If you are interested in running for a position, you can contact the Solano County Registrar of Voters at http://www.solanocounty.com/depts/rov/
