Dixon High Art & More of What's Coming Up In Dixon

These are just a few of the many activities happening soon in Dixon along with some business changes as well.

Put Some Spring In Your Step and Go Downtown

This coming Wednesday, March 20, is special because it is the first day of spring, but it is special fora bunch of other reasons, too. There are several downtown merchants that are bringing spring into downtown with style, children’s activities, and sales.

The Dixon Florist and Gift Shop cordially invite the public, along with all their garden fairies, to a ‘GardenGala,’ from 2 to 5 pm at their shop at 150 East A Street. In case you did not know or don’t remember, the Williams’ sisters and staff expanded their beautiful selections out into the back yard and have a wonderful assortment of outdoor plants, equipment, and decorations. It was a brilliant idea and offers another special place to shop locally. Tasty snacks will be served, the said.

Just around the corner is Bella Moda Boutique, where owner Amy Pretti, will offer a Spring FashionReview, from 2 to 6 pm at her very classy women’s clothing and accessory store. Her shop is also in theheart of downtown Dixon at 106 North First Street.

Right next door is B’s Gallery Salon and Spa where Becky Jacobs and her beautiful stylists will help with hair chalking, crafts for children, and have a sale table with 50 to 75 percent off retail items. Their celebration, which includes refreshments and goodies, will start at 2 and go to 6 pm at 120 North First Street.

Across the street is Nana & Co. Children’s Boutique where I’ll have many adorable spring outfits debut just in time for Easter. We’re taking the opportunity to offer a stuffed clearance rack of winter clothing where even greater bargains for children’s clothing can be gained. We’re going to give away some pretty spring stickers to the children and enter parents in a drawing for a $20 gift certificate.

While you’re there, don’t forget to pick up your ‘Breakfast with the Bunny’ tickets sponsored by the Dixon Kiwanis Club, Walmart, and Nana & Co. Tickets are $5 for the pancake breakfast at the newly renovated Old Veteran’s Hall, across from the public library on Saturday, March 30, 8 – 11 am. Pictures with the Easter bunny will be $1 but visiting with him is free.

Dixon High Students Show Off Art

DHS Principle Nick Girimonte and art teacher Nicole Morthan have announced the upcoming annual student Art Fair starting Friday, March 22 during the lunch hour for students and on March 25 and 26during school hours. If you get a chance, be sure you check out the artwork of our amazingly talented students.

If you miss that opportunity, the Downtown Dixon Business Association is working to coordinate with students to bring works into businesses for the week following. I’ll report more on that next week.

Solano Computer Guys Move

The handiness of getting your computer repaired right here in Dixon won’t be quite as accessible after this week as Solano Computer Guys is moving their Dixon business into their Vacaville location.  The Vacaville facility is two or three times the size of the Dixon shop, said Dixon shop Manager Ron McGrew, and in this continued recession, the move is totally understandable to save on rent, etc. The good news is that they are only moving.

That loss will leave a commercial opportunity for another, though, as the space is located directly next door to the ever-popular Linde Lane Tea Room. Someone should get on this right away as it is affordable and in a great downtown spot.

Remember, too, the little coffee/pastry shop turned Italian Restaurant, the Firehouse Bistro, is also moving-- so that corner cutie needs an entrepreneur as well. Tell your business favorites about Dixon’s growing numbers of residents who choose to shop local!

In the meantime, have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and say welcome to spring. TTFN
