DHS Students Show Off Art Downtown

Dixon High School art students are showing off their work in downtown Dixon this week.

Friday is your last chance to view a large selection of artwork by Dixon High School students now on display at various Dixon businesses. The ‘Progressive Art Show’ was organized by the Downtown Dixon Business Association and features more than 40 pieces of paintings, sketches, and ceramics that have been showcased as since Monday.

The  ‘mini galleries’ can be seen at Cynde’s Place, First Northern Bank, Dixon Florist, Olimpia Garner’s State Farm office, and Dixon Recology.

“The public is invited to view the art while doing business with our local merchants but are especially encouraged to enjoy them after enjoying lunch in any of our great restaurants,” said DDBA Director Debra Dingman. “This is an excellent opportunity for people to get to know our local business owners as well.”

Students from the Academy at Dixon High had further requirements to set up a public display for their work. It will be on display through Friday of this week.

The mission of the DDBA is to enhance the business environment and promote the revitalization of downtown as the cultural center of the community. The event organizers were pleased to work with DHS Art Teacher Nicole Mortham and coordinator Maggie Larson to garner student participation and help students get some gallery-type experience with their work.
