Measure N is a NO, Morning View is a GO, Says Carissa Carpenter

Carissa Carpenter reported Wednesday morning that Morning View, LLC will resume progress with the movie studio in Dixon now that Measure N is out of their way.

Measure N was a no vote at the polls Tuesday, reporting 69.23% opposed at midnight on Wednesday.

After hitting the brakes on progress towards a movie studio in Dixon because of legal concerns with Measure N, Morning View LLC says they will be calling land owners this week to open escrow for property acquisition.

"We are so proud of the Dixon community. They are some really smart people," says Carissa Carpenter, Chairman of Morning View LLC, after learning Measure N had been voted down by nearly two-thirds vote. "They looked beyond the headlines and read what the measure was actually about."

Carpenter said the Measure set their progress back two months, after paying a lot to expedite things early on, but says, "That's okay, we are ready and happy to move forward now."

Dixon Patch will have updates on the movie studios progress, town hall meetings, and further information as it is things progress.

I was... and I am happy with their response. The Studio and the town have two years (and many more after it opens) of hard work ahead.... Let's get this work party started!

Now will be the time to set-up the community meetings and share the project information and gather public comments so we can fast tract this project though the process. We will need a venue to hold meetings. We also welcome questions and comment from the public. Feel free to contact me at mikes@ibewlu180.org and please put studio in the subject so my junk mail filter does not block it. I am looking forward to working with the community and people at city hall again. Mike Smith For Morning View LLC

The Milk Farm was a wonderful opportunity a few years ago but the city and county put hurdle after hurdle for Dr. Moller to jump over and through. The results are sitting vacant. Lets not do that again, please!
Mike Smith November 08, 2012 at 04:44 PM
Jack, I was on the council when the Milk Farm received the conceptual EIR. We did everything we could to help. Dixon's policy, per the General Plan, development pays their own way. Therefore, Dixon does not have the same tools as most other cities in California to attract business or help existing business grow. We are moving forward on the Studio this very morning and will have information for the community very soon. I believe everyone is taking a look around after the defeat of Measure N and wondering what's next? Morning View will be very open on the process and time-lines. Any questions or concerns can be sent my way. Mike Smith mikes@ibewlu180.org - please place Studio in the subject

I think it's great, and I think their quick response is great. Can't think of a better business to locate to Dixon.

The Oakland Film Center has gotten the boot from its landlord. Seems as if the Port of Oakland needs more space for their operations. They are looking in the Richmond area for a sizable warehouse....I've sent them a note hinting that maybe Dixon is the place for them. The Film Center is a coalition of some 30 movie business sub contractors that supply props, build set, supply rentals and expendables to the Bay Area’s movie industry. Not sure that they will move this far North, but it’s worth the try.

The American Legion hall here in Dixon is available for that purpose.

I am glad that this is going forward. We have a need for jobs, especially for the teens in our area. Lets get this moving forward.....
Catherine November 12, 2012 at 06:12 AM
I don't think teens (or people from Dixon) will get jobs at the studio. I expect that all talent and jobs will be imported, except for perhaps clerical, and jobs at that level. It will, however, be a boon for local businesses.

Hello Debra and Catherine, In production there are many opportunities available. One such position would be a Production Assistant. The PA is one that answers to the Director or other staff, who is highly organized in getting and finding things within the community…purchasing things etc. Granted many of the positions will be skilled but there is no reason that these people would not move into the community. I have several friends already to move… Over time more and more of the skilled labor will come from the community as people gain these skills. There are several levels of labor, you have Key positions, Extra positions and Over hires and there is a way to work your way up the chain. Don’t forget that there will also be jobs in associated businesses….. Everyone will in one way or another be affected because the local economy will be getting a huge shot in the arm.

If you really are interested in getting to know more about potential jobs you can review the site listed below. http://www.media-match.com/usa/jobtypes/job-descriptions.php Reminder, I’m not speaking for the studio….I am a Stagehand for Live Events with a 30+ year history in the field. The union that I work through also staffs the Northern California movie shoots

Yeah you were on the council when Gil Vega killed the idea of putting together a strategic plan for getting infrastructure under the freeway so that the Milk Farm and other properties already zoned for development could be started. Let's see, Vega said it wasn't "the council's goal, it was a citizen's goal". You sat there and said nothing, as did Steve Alexander and the rest of the churls. By the way, your post was from November 8th. I guess we can all see what "expedite" means. Sort of like the Dixon Downs racetrack where the council had their minds made up long before the vote. This project needs to be "vetted" just like any other project. You don't simply approve it because it makes you feel good or you think you will make a buck off of it. But that isn't the way you governed, Mike, and this is how you expect your union backed thugs on the council to behave now. Rather sickening if you ask me. But expected ...

Probably be better for them to wait until there are film studios here to supply, dontcha think?
The Great Libertarian December 15, 2012 at 03:52 AM
Gary is right. Considering that Lucas may be one of the film studios present, or Lucas as a filmmaker, there will be considerable opportunity in computer graphics and associated high tech. That is where your computer savvy kids will find an opportunity ...

Catherine December 15, 2012 at 04:32 AM
I think it will be a tremendous boon to the local economy, and I am all for it, and yes, low level positions may be filled with locals. And there is a possibility of working up, but that's a long way down the road, and people should not expect to get "production jobs." I am most interested in whether there will be jobs in computer programming and graphcs, which is what my son is majoring in at UC Davis. Would love for local college graduates to have an opportunity to work in Dixon.

Hello everyone. The only update I can provide is that Morning View is close to closing the deal with the developer so they can start to close on the properties. The holidays have delayed things. Morning View hopes to make an announcement soon and then start the public discussion. Any questions or concerns can be sent my way. Thanks! Thank you, Mike, for the updates, and thank you, Gary, for your ongoing support of a fantastic opportunity for Dixon. BTW, lest anyone forget, the troll, "The Great Libertarian," is former councilman, Mike Ceremello, although most probably recognize him by his stellar journalistic professional tone. Cindy Duncan
