Storm to Move Out By Wednesday, Boomerang by Saturday

The National Weather Service forecasts a slight chance of rain for the rest of the week.

It's wet, and miserable outside.But there's good news on the horizon.

The National Weather Service says that the storm will be moving out of the region by tomorrow. But, the rain may return by the weekend.

However, the NWS forecasts only a 20 percent chance of precipitation on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Rain is likely to return Saturday.

Concerning today's storm the NWS said:

"Another strong late-season winter storm will affect the region today bringing rain to the valley and snowfall to the higher elevations. Gusty southerly winds will increase across much of the region by this afternoon before subsiding later tonight."

Here's what the NWS said about the weather for the rest of the work week, through Monday of next week:

"The winter storm will exit the region by later Wednesday afternoon, then lighter precipitation will return to the northern mountains and northern Sacramento Valley Thursday and Friday. Another strong system will likely affect the region Saturday."

Here's a summary of the week:

This Afternoon: Rain. High near 58. South southeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers. Low around 50. South wind between 14 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly before 11am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 63. South wind between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Southwest wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming south southwest between 4 and 7 mph.

Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69.

Friday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46.

Saturday: Rain likely. Partly sunny, with a high near 60.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 61.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62.
