Gridlock on Hwy 113 – City Council Addresses Traffic Issues Around Dixon High

Traffic issues surrounding Dixon High School on South First Street/ Highway 113 and the surrounding neighborhood streets are currently being evaluated by the City of Dixon for solutions. Do you have any suggestions on how to help the flow?

Traffic in Dixon is always an area of contention among residents.

Dixon High School traffic was discussed at the Sept. 10 City Council meeting. It is clear something will be changed, however, no definitive answers have been offered thus far.

After a tense debate between Councilmen Bogue and Mayor Batchelor over the pedestrian gate between Hall Park and the north side of DHS. It was decided that blocking off the gate was an undesired option as it would make for a longer trek to school for walking students.

Former City Councilmen Mike Ceremello stated, “You need a bigger solution, the problem is right now you only have one way in and one way out,” suggesting a four-lane expansion somewhere other than South First Street.

Other alternatives to the South Hwy 113 access offered by the council included one-way drop offs or exit lanes, and opening the gate on Country Fair Drive.

Bogue concluded, “A path of least resistance needs to be acquired – I know we can find an option."

Mayor Batchelor handed the reigns back to the City to conduct more traffic and pedestrian studies in order to appropriately designate a resolution.

What do you think the City should do about Dixon High School Traffic? What observations have you made in that area?
