Tigger Isn't the Only One Who Loves to Bounce

Family Fun Includes Watching Artists in Winters

This week’s Family Best Bets chosen by our Patch staff include an art observation in Winters, a wildly exciting Chinese Performing Arts event in Sacramento, great bouncing fun in Vacaville, and preschool story time next week. Our weather is getting warmer and the first day of spring is upon us. The important thing to remember: Have a great time with your family!

1. Winters Plein Air Festival   - (‘Plein air’ means 19th century style of painting outdoors) Downtown at dusk from March 25 through April 1 at 3 p.m. artists will capture the ambiance and architecture of downtown. Witness masterpieces in the making before your eyes and enjoy dinner and wine tasting while you’re out and about there.

2. Shen Yun Performing Arts - Shen Yun Performing Arts comes to Sacramento for a spectacular, original production of Chinese dance and music. Here's your chance to experience the show that has left millions in awe. There is brilliant choreography, gorgeous costumes, and state-of-the-art backdrops. Note children under 4 are not admitted and tickets are pricey—starting at $50 a seat but from what we’ve heard, it’s worth it. Go to www.shenyunperformingarts.org. They will perform at the Community Center Theater, 1400 J Street. Call (916) 808-5291.

3. Kids Gone Wild - This Vacaville bounce house provides one hour of fun and is already a deal at $5 admission but on Mondays, military get an extra 50 cents off with current ID. There is a toddler area for age 5 and under, and numerous safe, play structures. They are located at 3777 Vaca Valley Parkway just off Interstate 80 and Leisure Town Road exit across from Kaiser Hospital. Phones is (707) 446-9987 or go to www.kids-gone-wild.com

 4. Dixon Public Library Preschool Story Time - This coming Tuesday, April 5 at 6:45 p.m. or on Wednesday, April 6, at 10 a.m. is the monthly story time and crafts for little ones. The library is located 230 North First Street. We have anew children’s librarian who is enthusiastic about children’s programs so come and enjoy!

5. Blood Drive at Veteran’s Hall - Okay that may not seem like a ‘best bet’ but really, your children or family member might one day need a blood transfusion and wouldn’t it be nice to know that you gave someone this special gift at one time in your life as well? The drive will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Dixon Veteran’s Hall, 1305 North First Street courtesy of American Legion Post 208. Donating takes about an hour. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and 17 years old or older. There is no upper age limit for blood donations. See www.bloodsource.org for more information.
