Live Puppet Show Slated at Public Library

Children Invited This Thursday; Book Club Meets Friday

'Hansel and Gretel,' a live puppet show will be brought by Puppet Art Theaters out of Sacramento to perform this coming Friday, January 6, at 2 pm at the Dixon Public Library as part of the Children's Winter Reading Program.

"It is for children and their families," said Children's Librarian Katrina Bergen. "The kids are still laughing from last year's show so we wanted to bring them back." Bergen will also be distributing flyers on the storytime program which happens every other Wednesday at 10 am in the children's area.

The children's books and topics will be changing each time and these are the upcoming ones:  January 11 will be Alligators, January 25 will be Bears; and February 8 will feature Caterpillars. For more information, contact Bergen at (707) 693-2747.

On another note, the spring schedule is out for the Book Discussions and will start on Thursday, February 2, at 6:30 pm and lasts about an hour.

"There are usually a half dozen people that turn out," said Librarian Catherine Dunn who leads the discussions. The book for that talk is 'Blink,' by Malcolm Gladwell. Also on the calendar for following months will be 'Cider House Rules' by John Irving, 'State of Wonder' by Anne Patchett and 'Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett.

There is also a daytime Book Discussion that meets on the second Thursday of each month at 11 am beginning February 9 with 'Decoded' by Jay-Z, which was a group choice. Upcoming books for day time meetings are 'Wolf Hall' by Hilary Mantel, 'The Lost City of Z' by David Grann, and 'Room' by Emma Donoghue.
