This year's May Fair, themed "An A-Ford-Able Affair," will be bigger than it has ever been before. Last fall, the fair's board of directors approved the addition of a fifth day to what was traditionally a four-day event.

All components of the fair people love, from the games and carnival rides from Butler Amusement to the exhibits and the livestock area, will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 and entertain thousands of visitors through Mother's Day on Sunday, May 8.

Thousands and thousands of people from throughout northern California visit the fair, at 655 South First St., to enjoy the concerts, local entertainment, livestock, exhibits, midway and carnival and food.

This year's concert line-up for the arena has been described as one of the best the fair has ever had and there are still plenty of tickets available at the May Fair box office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Blues artists Jonny Lang and Robben Ford will perform opening night. Rock and roll musicians John Kay and Steppenwolf and Eric Burdon and the Animals will entertain Thursday. Country superstar Trace Adkins and special guest Merle Haggard will perform their many hits on Friday, and Disney pop star Selena Gomez and her band, The Scene will light up the stage Saturday.

The Demolition Derby, a Mother's Day tradition for many families, will highlight the activities on Sunday. Other activities planned throughout the five-day event include livestock judging and the junior livestock auction, a cow milking contest, a hog calling contest, the crowning of the Dixon May Fair Royalty Court, cooking contests, and much more.

Gates open at 10 a.m. daily. The exhibit buildings and the gates close at 10 p.m. The midway, provided by Butler Amusement, will remain open one to two hours after the gates close.

General admission during the fair is $12 for adults, $7 for children under 12, $8 for seniors, and $5 for all active and reserve military personnel with proper identification. Friday is Kids' Day and all children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge from opening until 5 p.m. Anyone who visits the May Fair Wednesday using a general admission or concert ticket will be able to keep that ticket and use it to receive free admission to the fair on any of the other four days.

Parking will be available for $5 in the Dixon May Fair parking lot, as well as at Dixon High School. For more information, visit www.dixonmayfair.com
