Bees 'N Bugs at the Dixon May Fair

Livestock won't be the only wildlife that can be found at the Dixon May Fair

The UC Davis Department of Entomology will display a honey bee observation hive from the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility and specimens from the Bohart Museum of Entomology at the Dixon May Fair.

The displays will be in the floriculture building, coordinated by superintendent Kathy Hicks and assistant superintendent  Amanda Hicks.

Among the beekeepers and volunteers who will staff the display will be Brian Fishback of Wilton, a past president of the Sacramento Area Beekeepers’ Association and a member of the California State Beekeepers’ Association. He assists bee breeder-geneticist Susan Cobey at the Laidlaw facility.

The Laidlaw facility, where scientists research honey bees and native bees,  is located on Bee Biology Road, west of the central campus. The Bohart Museum, home of more than seven million insect specimens, is located in Room 1124 Academic Surge on California Drive, UC Davis campus.

The 137th annual fair opens Thursday, May 10 and continues through Sunday, May 13. The grounds are located at 655 S. First St., Dixon. See the website at http://www.dixonmayfair.com for more information.
