West B Undercrossing Construction Noise is Giving One Neighbor a Big Headache

One Jefferson Street neighbor to the West B Undercrossing is frustrated with the 6 a.m. construction noise, and is disappointed in the Mayor's reactions.

Have you heard the West B Street undercrossing construction. City of Dixon officials says the noise should be minimal, but one neighborhood resident says she's loosing sleep because of it.

Although Mayor Jack Batchelor stated in a letter to the Dixon Tribune a few weeks ago that the weekend "vibrations experienced nearby may not be even as severe as the freight trains rumbling by as they pass through our city," neighbor, Regina Dunlap, says that's not the case.

After several announcement board posts expressing her frustration, that included the video above, Dixon Patch caught up with Dunlap with some questions by email.

What street do you live on?
I live on the 100 block of N. Jefferson St. My house sits on the corner of Jefferson & B St., living here since May 2006.

Has the City made effort to accommodate you during construction?

The only accommodation they have made is a hotel and I've had to move between two hotels with No food budget.

Did you receive warning before construction began?
I did but only days before. Never was notified that this kind project of project was in the works. If I had, I would have defiantly voice my opinion against it. My neighbors and I were never notified or knew about the Dixon Chamber of Commerce (train station) being built until it started.

What have City officials told you about the noise, how long it will last?
City officials haven't said anything to us. I have been given notices and even those notices aren't accurate to the work being done and when it's being done. Only after we made it an issue about the city's lack of communication did they start to give us notices.

Have you spoken with any of your neighbors about the construction noise? How do they feel?
Yes. They are just as annoyed and disturbed with the project as I am. We are all disgusted with the city's lack of communication and regards to the residents who have to live around it and deal with the mess it will bring. When I brought up at a town meeting with Mayor Bachelor about why the residents in my area and other Dixonites weren't given any option to vote on this, He replied with "it's public record on the website".

I replied with, not everyone has access to Internet or know there is a website to look at, he replied with " well it's there". I then suggested that projects like this should be put out there and made aware of. He said "well I can't personally delivered notices". I replied with, yes you can or your city representatives can. He left it at that and didn't want to discuss it any longer.

Since this project I have learned so much more and it's disappointing to know what our city officials do and get away with and a lot of residents don't know about.

Would you consider the project a nuisance in your neighborhood?
