Tremont 4-H Club Means Fun Filled Activities

Tremont 4-H Club of Dixon involves itself in many fun activities.

Solano County third graders boarded buses to go to the Solano County Fairgrounds on March 16 to learn about agriculture.

4-H members, including 18 Tremont members, were there to help the third graders learn about project animals, make butter, grow worm farms, watch a honey bee activity in the UC Davis bee hive, and put together “Beanie Babies” to grow.

The 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology station was a big hit too.  There were shouts of surprise and laughter as the third graders ran from station to station.

North Central 4-H Council held Sectional 4-H Presentation Day at UC Davis on March 26. Solano County was well represented in the many categories. Presentation categories were open to all age groups: junior, intermediate, and senior. Members chose from a variety of presentation styles including: demonstration; illustrated talk; impromptu speech; interpretive reading; educational display; share-the-fun; prepared speech; cultural arts; audio-visual; and problem solving.

Receiving a gold at Sectional 4-H Presentation Days qualifies the 4-H member to compete at the State 4-H Field Day on May 28 at UC Davis. Tremont officers presented a share-the-fun skit called, “If I were not a 4-H’er, I would be…” written by Gabi Alcantara.

Dixon May Fair is coming soon. Tremont 4-H’ers are busy preparing. Small animal projects are grooming, training, practicing showmanship, and preparing educational information. Other projects such as Arts and Crafts, Foods, Photography, and Sewing are preparing entries. It’s an exciting time when they can showcase what they have learned this 4-H year.

Fashion Revue will be April 9 in Stockton. This year the theme is “Sew What’s Hot”. The goals for this event are to:

  • provide educational activities for youth who are learning and growing in citizenship, leadership and life skills
  • Inspire appreciation of clothing, textiles, consumer science, and personal development
  • Introduce opportunities to extend youth leadership and communication
  • Promote self-esteem through individual expression

All of the Tremont Sewing project members decided to enter the $15 Challenge. The challenge is to purchase a coordinated outfit for $15. That can be very difficult to do, but they spent several hours at the Dixon Thrift Store and found some great looking outfits.

This challenge encourages youth to shop in new places, be wise consumers, to locate clothing that makes the wearer look and feel great, to use expert shopping skills, and to find a bargain with high value.

It is certainly a busy time of the year for 4-Hers.
